Prevention Programs

The Prevention Department supports youth, families, and the broader community through programs that promote health, wellness, and resilience.  We deliver a range of services, including after-school programming and public awareness initiatives. Whether working directly with young people or supporting community-wide initiatives behind the scenes, our focus is on connecting individuals and families with the knowledge and resources they need to thrive.

Community Youth Services

The goal of the CYS program is to prevent youth delinquency and violence by supporting young people through community engagement, youth empowerment, family involvement, and access to supportive services. The program focuses on increasing youth life skills, connecting them to employment and educational opportunities, improving family communication, and strengthening environments where youth live and learn. By working with families, communities, and local systems, CYS aims to help youth build self-sufficiency, make healthy choices, and achieve positive futures.  Programming targets youth ages 11-24 in Addison and Bloomingdale Townships. 

School Wellness Pop-Ups

Supporting school-wide efforts, the Tier 1 efforts, NEDFYS hosts Wellness Pop-Ups during school lunch hours to introduce all students to topics like coping skills, healthy habits, and positive choices in a fun, approachable way. These drop-ins create space for students to learn, connect, and access helpful resources outside the classroom.
